3 Chicago Men Accused Of Swiping Subwoofers Off Railcar On South Side

A Norfolk Southern drone captured the three men swiping subwoofers off a railcar, who notified Cook County Sheriff's Police.

CHICAGO — A drone captured three Chicago men allegedly burglarizing a railcar during a pre-dawn joint law enforcement operation last month on the South Side, targeting cargo thefts on Cook County’s railways.

Kendrick Durr, 28, Allen Powell, 35, and 24-year-old Jaylin Thomas have each been charged with felony burglary of a railcar. The three were also charged with misdemeanor criminal trespassing.

Around 4:35 a.m. Oct. 29, the Norfolk Southern Railroad’s drone captured three people breaking into a cargo container on a freight train near East 95th Street and South Cottage Grove Avenue in Chicago. Norfolk rail police notified the Cook County Sheriff’s Police Community Safety Team.

When officers approached, the three fled, police said. The trio was eventually located in a nearby residential area and taken into custody. Officers found Durr in the 9500 block of South University Avenue. Powell and Thomas were found in the 9500 block of South Dobson Avenue, sheriff’s police said.

Officers also recovered boxes of subwoofers taken from the cargo container near where the burglary took place. The Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office approved felony burglary charges against all three later that morning.
