Toddler Shot At Gas Station Has Detectives Searching For Answers

Chief of Detectives Brendan Deenihan says "community does not want this violence" asks for help bringing justice.

CHICAGO - A 3-year-old girl is in serious condition following a shooting in the South Shore neighborhood early Wednesday.

Shots were fired into the vehicle following an altercation involving the girl's father at the Amstar gas station in the 2400 block of 74th Street around 12:30 A.M, police said.

The girl suffered a gunshot wound to the head and scratches to the eye, possibly from shattered glass from the vehicle. She was taken to Comer Children’s Hospital. As of Tuesday morning, the girl's condition had stabilized, and she was talking, police said at a news conference.

Mayor Lori Lightfoot called on the girl's parents to help police catch the shooter.

“I urge the mother and father of that 3-year-old to cooperate to provide substantive information about what transpired at that gas station," she said. "That’s the only way we’re going to be able to make headway in that case."
