MMOT Visits Illinois State Fairgrounds Aug. 8-18

The traveling bus aimed at fighting hate and intolerance will greet visitors near the front entrance during the Illinois State Fair.

SPRINGFIELD -- The Illinois State Fair is almost here. An important repeat attraction will be the Mobile Museum of Tolerance, near the front gate of the Fairgrounds.

A partnership with the state allows the MMOT to travel across Illinois and help people understand what drives hate and intolerance, and how to make real change. Learn more about how you can find the MMOT and its educational offerings while out at the Fair:

The Mobile Museum of Tolerance (MMOT) will be at the 2024 Illinois State Fair, offering visitors a chance to use their voices to speak up against bullying, racism, anti-Semitism, hate, and intolerance. Since 2021, this one-of-a-kind free traveling mobile education center has reached more than 40,000 visitors, with nearly 32,000 students at 160 schools across Illinois.

When:

From August 8th to August 18th, the MMOT will be open every day from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM, except on Saturdays. We will be located at Gate #2, at the corner of East Sangamon Avenue and N. Peoria Road on the southeast corner of the Fairgrounds.

MMOT Workshops:

Immerse yourself in historical narratives during your MMOT visit. Choose from the following videos:

· The Anne Frank Story (:00 each hour): Experience a short film about the life of Anne Frank, followed by a discussion on the Holocaust, anti-Semitism, and resistance. This workshop aims to enhance visitors’ abilities to become proactive members of society, influencing positive change.
· Civil Rights (:20 each hour): Watch a 9-minute documentary featuring numerous American civil rights heroes. Draw comparisons between the Civil Rights Movement of the 1950s and 60s with other fights for civil rights throughout US history.
· The Power of Ordinary People (:40 each hour): Explore the different roles of ordinary people as Upstanders or Bystanders during the Holocaust in a 6-minute video. Following the video, join the discussion on how these roles relate to the present day, and be encouraged to take an active part in preventing hate and promoting tolerance in your communities.
