1. The Mobile DMV will be in Downtown Springfield this Friday (wdbr.com) — If you need DMV services without the usual hassle, a Mobile DMV will be at the Downtown Springfield YMCA on Fourth Street this Friday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Residents can renew licenses, update plate stickers, and get Real IDs, though driving tests won’t be offered at the mobile site.

2. Emergency water main repairs affected 80 customers on South Fourth Street (newschannel20.com) — Water service has been restored after emergency repairs to a broken 24-inch water main on South Fourth Street in Springfield left about 80 customers temporarily without water Monday afternoon. The outage affected homes and businesses between the 2600–3100 blocks of South Fourth and a South Sixth Street shopping center, and drivers were urged to use caution around repair crews working near the roadway.

3. $2M to help homeless in Springfield (capitolcitynow.com) — State leaders have committed $2 million in new funding to Springfield homeless programs, boosting permanent supportive housing run by Fifth Street Renaissance, Helping Hands, and Mercy Communities. Officials stress the life-or-death stakes, noting people without housing face far higher risks from cold and significantly shorter life expectancy, making this investment especially urgent for vulnerable residents this winter.

4. Springfield firefighters battle Monday morning house fire in freezing temps (wcia.com) — Springfield firefighters quickly knocked down an electrical house fire on West Reynold Street early Monday morning, despite sub-freezing temperatures. No injuries were reported, and crews contained flames that started near the breaker box. Officials also reminded residents that freezing weather can complicate firefighting by icing equipment and turnout gear.

5. Meet Polo — APL Cat of the Week (wdbr.com) — An 11-year-old one-eyed tabby named Polo is waiting for a quiet, patient home at the Animal Protective League on Taintor Road in Springfield. Staff say she’s shy at first but very sweet once she feels safe, preferring calm company and cozy napping spots. You can meet her any day between noon and 5 p.m.
