SkillsUSA Illinois Names Ryan as Interim Executive Director, Ensuring Strong Leadership for Upcoming Year
The leadership change comes as the organization continues to build strong relationships and help students make the right career choices.
SPRINGFIELD -- The Board of Directors of SkillsUSA Illinois announced today that Bryna Ryan has been appointed Interim Executive Director, ushering in a new chapter of leadership for the organization while reaffirming its steadfast mission to empower students and support Illinois’ skilled workforce pipeline.
Ryan, who joined the organization in August 2024 as Director of Workforce Development, brings a wealth of experience in nonprofit leadership and workforce development. She previously served as CEO of Neighborhood House Association of Peoria and holds degrees from Illinois State University and the University of Illinois at Springfield. Her appointment comes at a critical time as SkillsUSA Illinois prepares to support more than 16,000 student members across the state in the 2025–2026 school year.
“Bryna is a proven, experienced leader who knows our members and how to help them succeed during this transition period,” said Sean Fitzgerrel, Chair of the SkillsUSA Illinois Board of Directors. “SkillsUSA Illinois is in excellent position to have a great school year ahead, and Bryna’s insights and leadership will make sure we step up to meet the challenge.”

Over the past several years, SkillsUSA Illinois has significantly expanded its reach and impact, helping to close the skills gap by aligning career and technical education with the needs of today’s workforce. The organization deepened partnerships with employers, launched innovative competitions and career pathways, and amplified its student development efforts with record-breaking participation at the 2025 SkillsUSA Illinois Championships.
Ryan’s appointment follows the departure of Executive Director Eric Hill, who was thanked by the Board for his service. As Interim Executive Director, Ryan will lead the organization through its upcoming programming cycle while ensuring stability and continued innovation in student support, industry collaboration, and career readiness initiatives.
