17-Year-Old Tinley Park Girl Killed, Person Of Interest In Custody: PD

According to a letter to Andrew High School parents and medical examiner's officials, Mia Maro was killed inside her home Sunday night.

TINLEY PARK, IL — A 17-year-old girl was killed Sunday night in Tinley Park, according to police.

Officials said Mia Maro, a student at Andrew High School, was found dead at a home in the 7800 block of West 167th Street Sunday shortly before 5 p.m.

When police arrived, officers said they found the girl in a "lower level of the home" and began a death investigation. As of Monday afternoon, the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office had ruled the death a homicide as a result of multiple injuries from an assault.

A message sent to parents from Andrew High School Principal Abir Othman confirmed Mia's death, stating guidance counselors would be available for students throughout the week.

Police have identified one person of interest in the homicide and said they have the person, a male, in custody. According to a statement from village officials, the man is not a threat to the community.
