Apple Support Call Scam Hits Arlington Heights Residents: Police

Calls that look like they come from Apple stores about defective products may be from scammers.

ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, IL — Phony calls warning that Apple products are defective and need to be replaced are hitting area residents, Arlington Heights police said. The calls look like they come from Apple store numbers, but they are fake and originate from scammers.

Police warn residents to be vigilant, and suggest they follow Apple's guidelines to protect themselves from phone and email scams.

  • Never sharing your Apple ID password or temporary verification codes.
  • Use two-step authentication for signing in to your accounts.
  • Be suspicious of callers using flattery or threats to get access to your information, money or gift cards.
  • Report any suspicious calls or emails right away.
