Blotter: Money Found at FedEx; Man Snorts Heroin

Warrant Arrest

Francewan R. Burks, 40, of the 11300 block of South Ada in Chicago, was arrested around 7 p.m. in Chicago on a warrant out of the for driving with a revoked license.

Money Found at FedEx

The manager of a local FedEx Office store said that on May 31, she found more than $100 in cash on the floor in front of the store's candy counter. She checked the store surveillance video to see if she could identify the owner and then called the police. She held the money for seven days per FedEx policy and the owner never came forward, the report said. Officers inventoried the currency and placed it into evidence.

Retail Theft at Target

Analecia M. Santiago, 25, of the 400 block of Shabonna Drive in Park Forest, was arrested around 4:55 p.m. at Super Target, 7300 W. 191st St., and charged with retail theft. A store security guard said he saw Santiago steal a two-piece bathing suit and cover up from the store, according to the report. 

SATURDAY, JUNE 9

Man Snorts Heroin

Police pulled over a driver near the intersection of 76th and 167th streets in  around 8:20 p.m. when they reportedly saw him fail to come to a complete stop at a stop sign. Officers recognized the driver, Joshua H. Pendl, 26, as having a suspended license, they said.

"I observed both of Joshua's pupils to be extremely constricted," the report said.

The officer asked that Pendl, of the 7600 block of 164th Street in Tinley Park, step out of the car because of the suspension.

"I asked Joshua if he had anything illegal on him or in his vehicle," the report said. "He stated, 'I have some bags in my wallet.' I asked him, 'Bags of what?' (He) stated that there were bags of heroin in his wallet behind his TCF bank card."

Police found the bags, which contained 1.6 grams of heroin, they said. They also found a red straw that Pendl told them he'd used to snort some of it, according to the report. He was charged with possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, driving with a suspended license, disobeying a stop sign and operating an uninsured motor vehicle. 

SUNDAY, MAY 20

Officers Find Driver Hunched Over Wheel

After police clocked a woman around 3:30 a.m. driving 68 mph in a 40 mph zone on Harlem Avenue, they pulled her over.

They said that when they walked up to her 2009 Kia, Olivia R. Canas, was hunched over the wheel. They asked her if she was OK, they said, and she said "yes," but had bloodshot, watery eyes and slurred speech. Canas, of the 11600 block of Pineview Drive in Orland Park, reportedly failed field sobriety tests. She later blew a .241 on the Breathalyzer, officers said.

She was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, driving under the influence with a blood-alcohol content greater than 0.08, speeding and operating an uninsured motor vehicle. 

Warrant Arrest

Douglas B. Birdsell, 50, of the 16500 block of South 67th Court in Tinley Park, was arrested around 10:20 p.m. at his home. Police said they arrested Birdsell while "checking the current subjects that are wanted out of the Cook County Sheriff's Department and live in Tinley Park," according to the report.
