The most pressing issues facing Tinley Park are _______, and this is what I intend to do about them.
Keeping crime low by working closely with the Tinley Park Police Department and supplying them with the tools to do so. Continuing to make good investments in our Village to keep the property taxes frozen.
What are the critical differences between you and the other candidates seeking this post?
I have eight years of experience and have first and foremost been honest with all aspects of my role as trustee. I have formed great relationships with numerous police and fire department officials and public works officials due to my role on the Public Safety Committee. I have worked with the Civil Service Commission, Senior Citizens Commission and Sister City Commission and have helped to build programs with them.
If you are a challenger, in what way has the current board or officeholder failed the community (or district or constituency)?
N/A
Describe the other issues that define your campaign platform.
Continuing to hold the line on property taxes and investing in public safety, are crucial issues as well as keeping the growth in businesses and the beautification of our Village.
What accomplishments in your past would you cite as evidence you can handle this job?
My biggest accomplishment that I am very proud o f is getting a new State of the Art Fire House built after 12 years of being on hold. Our new firehouse and fire engine, that holds 500 gallons of water, as opposed to the 300 that most engines hold, was a huge accomplishment. I was a member of the Inaugural Citizens Fire Academy class. I believe that gave me a better understanding of what our firefighters do and solidified my concern of getting the firehouse and new fire engine completed
Why should voters trust you?
I am very proud of my reputation of being a stand up guy and also an active church member, A Boy Scout leader for 22 years, and a volunteer for the State of IL Dept. of Natural Resources for 48 years as an instructor for boating safety and hunter safety classes. I truly care about other people and doing all that I can to help others. When I commit myself to anything, I give 110 percent. I have listened to many citizens and have represented their thoughts and concerns to the Mayor and the Board for 8 years and have had much success with that. I do whatever it takes to get the job done.
If you win this position, what accomplishment would make your term in office as a success?
My third term in this office would be continuing to help our Village grow in businesses, beautification and keeping the property taxes down and the completion of Harmony Square and all the events and activities offered by the Village.
What are your views on fiscal policy, government spending and the handling of taxpayer dollars in the office you are seeking?
I, along with the other members of the board, strongly believe in fiscal responsibility. We have done so by saying no to tax increases and making smart investments.
What are your thoughts on the crime rate in your community, and what more can be done to combat crime — especially violent crime — in town?
Tinley Park has a very low crime rate. We will continue to work with the police and whatever their needs or concerns are and support them.
What is your view of the Village's approach to commercial and residential development?
Our Village has continued to grow through new businesses, townhomes, apartments and single family homes. It is very rewarding to see our growth and the developers wanting to build in our village.
When it comes to development, what are some key areas for improvement or additions you feel are most wanted by residents? What will need to be done to make this happen?
Parking is always an issue whenever there is growth of any kind in a community. Working on extra parking areas in downtown Tinley is something we are currently working on and would continue to do so in my next term. Purchasing vacant properties to provide additional parking is constantly in the works.
Is there any reason you would not serve your full term of office, other than those of health or family?
No.
What else would you like voters to know about yourself and your positions?
First, as a family man, my wife and I raised two children that graduated from Andrew High School. As a Trustee, anything that I do, or vote on, will affect me and my family. I take this perspective into all meetings and decisions, since it will affect all other in the Village as well.
