Final Procession For Former TP Fire Chief Saturday, Traffic Expected

Village officials advised that residents should expect congestion during a final sendoff for retired Tinley Park Fire Chief Kenneth Dunn.

TINLEY PARK, IL — A final procession for former Tinley Park Fire Chief Ken Dunn will be held Saturday, Nov. 18, and a road closure will be in place to accommodate the caravan, Village officials said Friday.

Dunn, 76, served the department for 45 years prior to his retirement in 2016. He died Oct. 26, according to his obituary.

Officials on Friday advised that residents can expect congestion from 167th to 163rd streets, and on Oak Park Avenue from noon to 8 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 18 due to the partial road closure.

"The Village of Tinley Park is doing its best to be respectful of businesses and residents during this time, and thanks everyone for their patience," officials said.

Dunn began as a firefighter with the department, climbing to the ranks of engineer, lieutenant, captain, assistant fire chief and eventually fire chief in June 1996. In that time, he also served as fire inspector and fire prevention administrator.

"Ken served the Village admirably throughout the past few decades, and we will miss him very much," said Fire Chief Steve Klotz.

Dunn also served in the U.S. Army Security Agency, specifically in communications security. He spent 13 months in Korea and two years in Germany. By the time he left Korea, he was promoted to Specialist E-5, and in Germany, he was responsible for running an office.

"Chief Dunn dedicated his life to the Tinley Park Fire Department, and he was well-loved within the organization and with residents," Mayor Michael Glotz said. "On behalf of myself and the Village Board, I want to extend my sincerest sympathies to the Dunn family."
