Man, 45, Killed In Crash With Semi On I-80: State Police

TINLEY PARK, IL — A 45-year-old Ottawa man died Monday afternoon in a crash with a semi truck on I-80 East, Illinois State Police said.

State police were called at 3 p.m. to a two-vehicle crash on I-80 eastbound near Central Avenue. A semi truck struck the rear-end of a Chevrolet SUV, which had slowed in traffic, state police said. The driver of the SUV—later identified by the Cook County Medical Examiner as Daniel Tonielli, 45, of Ottawa—was fatally injured. A passenger was injured and taken to a nearby hospital.

The semi driver was uninjured.

All lanes on I-80 eastbound near Central Avenue were shut down at 3:29 p.m.; lanes were reopened at approximately 6:45 p.m.
