TINLEY PARK, IL — Tinley Park residents will not be able to access the railroad crossing at 80th Avenue beginning Wednesday.

Metra officials will be conducting repairs to the railroad crossing at 80th Avenue from April 20 - 29, village officials told Patch.

While repairs will run, village officials said the inconvenience of closures is worth it for the end product.

"This is a good thing, well needed," said Public Works Director John Urbanski at a village board meeting.

Metra will provide detour signs for drivers who usually cross the railroad tracks at 80th Avenue. Tinley Park police will announce exact detour routes as the closure approaches. Parking will still be available for customers at the north and south lots.

Two years ago, the Tinley Park 80th Avenue Train Station underwent separate repairs to fix staircases, railings and pavers at the local station. The $1 million contract was awarded to F.H. Paschen.

This time around, the village will not have to fund the repairs since issues lie with the tracks, Metra's territory. The station was opened in 2012.
