Missing Retired Andrew Teacher Featured On Podcast

'Every time I try to find a scenario that makes sense to me, I can't find one,' Dan Jarski's wife told 'The Vanished.'

GRANT PARK, IL — The wife of a retired Andrew High School science teacher who disappeared about a month ago is hoping a missing persons podcast might shed light on her husband's whereabouts. Dan Jarski, 62, was last seen by his family Sept. 8, and he was reported missing Sept. 9.

"Every time I try to find a scenario that makes sense to me, I can't find one," Janace Jarski, Dan's wife, told "The Vanished" podcast during its recent 143rd episode.

When Jarski left his Grant Park house in the early morning of Sept. 9, he did so without taking his smart phone or his wallet, which was a common occurrence, Janace said. While not taking $900 from his wallet, Jarski apparently removed his driver's license and auto insurance card, his wife added.

Authorities discovered Jarski's unlocked, red Chevrolet City Express van in a hunting area parking lot at Kankakee State Park on Sept. 11. There was no indication that there had been any activity around the van. A spare key hidden in spare tire underneath the van had not been removed, Janace said.

Once the van was located, Janace thought her husband would've been found, as well. That didn't happen, however.

"[T]he fact that they haven't found a body or found him alive with a broken leg is what is a mystery to me," she said.

Janace said she doesn't think her husband purposely disappeared or committed suicide. And because Jarski was a "lumberjack" of a man, she's skeptical that foul play was involved in the disappearance.

"Personally, I think [authorities] have searched as far as they think he could feasibly walk," she said. "And if they think he got into a car, where are you going to start to look?"

Although she hasn't given up hope finding her husband, Janace is trying to bring normalcy back to her daily routine.

"I've tried to go on with my life, but I don't even know how to do that," she said.

Jarski is described as 6 feet tall and 240 pounds with brown eyes and gray hair. Anyone with information on his whereabouts should contact Kankakee Sheriff's Det. Brady Bertrand at 815-802-7159.
