Motorcyclist At 'High Rate of Speed' Before Hitting Minivan: Tinley PD
Tinley Park police said initial reports indicated a motorcyclist sped up before hitting a minivan as the driver turned into traffic.
TINLEY PARK, IL — A motorcyclist in a two-car crash Friday in Tinley Park had reportedly sped up as a minivan was turning into traffic heading the opposite direction, striking the driver's side of the minivan, Tinley Park police said Tuesday.
The motorcyclist, identified as 36-year-old Ryan Albores, died in the crash at West Creek Road and 183rd Street Friday, Aug. 18.
Witnesses of the crash told police a Honda Odyssey was turning left from West Creek onto 183rd Street westbound, when a motorcyclist headed eastbound at a high rate of speed struck the driver's side door, said Tinley Park Police Chief Matt Walsh. There is a stop sign on West Creek Road; 183rd Street at that intersection has no stop sign or traffic signal.

Other drivers eastbound on 183rd Street told police they observed the driver of the motorcycle passing them at a high rate of speed, and that they believed the driver of the minivan had allowed for ample time to complete the turn, Walsh said.
The driver of the minivan—a 39-year-old woman—tested negative for any alcohol impairment. The woman also had a 10-year-old passenger.
