2 Multi-Vehicle Crashes Happen Blocks Apart On 167th Street

UPDATED: A helicopter was needed for one of the accidents, and stretch of the road was closed Thursday night.

TINLEY PARK, IL — Firefighters from around the area responded to two multi-vehicle accidents Thursday night that happened less than a mile apart on 167th Street, forcing authorities to shut down a stretch of the road. It's unclear how many people were hurt in the crashes, but multiple ambulances were called to one accident, and a helicopter was needed for the other.

A call concerning a crash at 167th and Ridgeland Avenue came in just before 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 20, according to Northern Illinois FireGround's Facebook page. At least four vehicles were involved in the accident, and photos from the scene show the front of a silver SUV crumpled behind a blue four-door car.

Firefighters and first responders from Tinley Park, Orland Park and Mokena responded to the crash, and three ambulances were called to the scene. No life-threatening injuries were reported, and at least one person refused treatment, according to NIFG.

Three vehicles were part of a second accident that occurred at around 7:30 p.m. less than a mile east at 167th and Gentry Lane, NIFG reports. The road needed to be closed because of the crash, and a helicopter flew in to transport at least one injured person, the report added.
