Near-Drowning Reported At Tinley Park District Pool: Officials

TINLEY PARK, IL — Life-saving measures were taken to revive a woman who officials say experienced a medical emergency during an aquatics class at a Tinley Park District pool Thursday morning.

Emergency personnel were called Thursday around 8:30 a.m. to the Tinley Park District Bettenhausen Center, for a report of a possible drowning. Responding crew found a woman in her 60s who had suffered a medical emergency during the class, Village Manager Pat Carr told Patch.

Park district officials issued a statement via social media.

"A patron of Tinley Fitness participating in an Aqua Aerobics class collapsed in the water," the statement red. "The class instructor immediately entered the pool and assisted the patron to the pool deck to provide medical care. Simultaneously, other Park District staff activated the Emergency Action Plan.

"Tinley Park emergency officials responded to the scene providing medical care on-site before transporting the patron to an area hospital. Our thoughts are with the participant and we are grateful for the Tinley Park emergency personnel’s quick help."

The woman was alive when taken to Silver Cross Hospital for treatment, Carr said. No further information is known about her condition as of 11 a.m.
