1 In Custody After Nearly Day-Long Standoff In Tinley Park: Sheriff

The situation began at 10:30 a.m. Thursday and ended in the early morning hours Friday.

TINLEY PARK, IL — An 18-hour standoff in Tinley Park ended in one person in police custody early Friday morning, the Cook County Sheriff's Office said.

At approximately 10:36 a.m. Thursday, Cook County Sheriff’s police were called with a report of a barricade situation at a home near 179th and Harlem Avenue. Sheriff’s Police Hostage Barricade Team were at the scene for hours, "dealing with a distressed individual," according to Tinley Park police. Harlem Avenue from 183rd to 175th streets was closed while authorities surrounded a home.

At approximately 3:38 a.m. Friday, members of sheriff’s police, Tinley Park police, and South Suburban Emergency Response Teams gained entry to the home and secured the scene, the sheriff's office said. One individual was taken into custody without incident, and two people were taken to the hospital for medical evaluations, the sheriff's office said. No injuries have been reported.
