TINLEY PARK, IL — The long awaited Starbucks at the corner of 171st Street and LaGrange Road officially opened for business Tuesday, village officials said.

A ribbon cutting ceremony welcomed the village's fifth Starbucks location, which is located at the former MD Financial/Fifth-Third Bank site within the Park Hills Towne Center on 171st Street between LaGrange Road and 94th Avenue.

The Starbucks takes up about 2,364 sq. ft. of the leasable floor space in the center, according to village documents. Tinley Park Mayor Mike Glotz said the location is already seeing "record sales."

"We now have a business that will be generating sales tax revenue for the Village," Glotz wrote in an email to Patch. "The bank only generated real estate taxes for the Village."

The LaGrange Road spot required the removal of the rear canopy area to make room for the installation of a drive-thru and patio seating.
