Panduit Leader, Wife Killed In Crash Were Parents To 5, And 'Strong, Fearless Role Models'

Brett and Melissa Lane died Friday in a seven-vehicle crash in La Grange. They're being remembered as "pillars of their community."

HINSDALE, IL — A Hinsdale couple killed in a multi-vehicle crash Friday raised five children while serving as "strong, fearless role models" to them and their community, their shared obituary reads.

Brett Allen Lane, 51, and Melissa Ann Lane, 49, died Friday in a seven-vehicle crash in La Grange, Patch previously reported.

The couple spent the majority of their lives in Hinsdale, their obituary reads. Brett was Chief Technology Officer at Panduit Corporation in Tinley Park, where he had worked for nearly 22 years, according to his LinkedIn account.

The two met while attending graduate school at Northwestern University studying engineering.

"Brett and Melissa Lane were pillars of their community," the obituary said. "Strong, fearless role models that touched the hearts of many. Brett had an infectious spirit, a love of innovation, and an unwavering work ethic. Melissa was a positive beacon of life and hope, always lifting up those around her."

The obituary said Brett Lane enjoyed racing cars, golfing, photography and cheering his alma mater, the University of Texas.

Melissa Lane liked to golf, read, take part in her prayer group and relax on the beach in Florida.

Their children are Simon, Colin, Quinten, Emily, and James Lane.

"Brett and Melissa’s greatest accomplishment was raising their five children and building a family of profound love that was tangible to all," family said in the obituary.

Visitation was set for Tuesday, April 29 from 3 to 8 p.m. at Sullivan Funeral Home, 60 South Grant St., in Hinsdale. Complete information available online.
