TINLEY PARK, IL — The summer's soggy weather may bring to mind last year's canceled fireworks show in Tinley Park, but have no fear: The show (very likely) will go on. Officials say they have a plan — and are offering important reminders about public safety on the Fourth of July.
Last year, inclement weather forced Tinley and surrounding municipalities to cancel their fireworks show.
However, Superintendent of Recreation Sandy Chevalier said that only lightening high winds or severe weather will halt this year's production. If there's drizzle or rain, the fireworks show will still go on.

The Tinley Park Fire Department also wants to remind residents about what's safe and what's not on Independence Day:
- The best way to determine if firework material is acceptable in the Village of Tinley Park is this - if you need to light it, it’s prohibited, officials said.
- Don't allow young children to play with fireworks under any circumstances. Sparklers, although prohibited, are considered by many the ideal “safe” firework for the young. Sparklers can burn at more than 1,800 degrees and can easily ignite clothing. Children cannot understand the danger involved and cannot act appropriately in case of an emergency.
- Think about your pet. Animals have sensitive ears and can be extremely frightened by fireworks. Keep your pets indoors to reduce the risk they’ll run loose or get injured.
