Body Found In Pond ID'd As Missing Tinley Park Man: Medical Examiner

Emergency response at Yankee Woods was related to the search for a man missing since Wednesday morning.

TINLEY PARK, IL — A body found in a pond in a Cook County forest preserve Thursday morning has been identified as that of a missing Tinley Park man.

Police activity at Yankee Woods Preserve in Tinley Park was linked early Thursday to the ongoing search for the man, 66, whose name was initially only disclosed as Daniel. A man's body was discovered in the pond at 10 a.m., said Forest Preserves of Cook County Director of Communication Carl Vogel. The man has been identified as Daniel Duehr, 66, of the 16700 block of Trail View Court in Tinley Park, the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office said. A cause and manner of death are pending autopsy results.

Forest Preserves of Cook County police are leading the death investigation, and there does not appear to be any danger to the public, Vogel said.

Duehr left his home near 167th and Oak Forest Avenue Wednesday just before 5 a.m. and on foot. Drones and K9s were called in Wednesday afternoon to aid in the search.Search efforts focused on trails and preserves, as Duehr was said to frequent them. Tinley Park police and fire, Illinois Search and Rescue, the Cook County Sheriff's Police and the Tinley Park Emergency Management Agency worked together Wednesday, and Cook County Forest Preserves Police took over command of the search Thursday morning.

Authorities were seen searching the woods near 167th and Central Avenue late into the night Wednesday. The search resumed Thursday at 8 a.m.
