Score a Free Rain Barrel From the Village of Tinley Park

Learn how you can benefit from a stormwater management program available to many Tinley residents.

April showers bring May flowers — Or at least, a surplus of usable water.

Just because May is officially under way doesn't mean residents can't still consider taking advantage of a Village of Tinley Park partnership with the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago (MWRD) that offers free rain barrels to those living within the district's service area.

Rain barrels are a form of green infrastructure designed to capture and reuse rainwater. Using them wisely can lead to a significant reduction in water bills. The goal of the local program is to reduce the amount of water entering the stormwater sewer system, which can minimize basement backups, mitigate overland flooding, and affect infiltration and inflow.
