TINLEY PARK, IL — Tinley Park's two-day block party went off without a hitch, drawing an estimated 25,000 over two days. Enhanced measures kept crowds moving and minimized any potential security risks, officials said.

The block party was spread across and around Zabrocki Plaza Saturday, July 15 and Sunday, July 16, with live music, carnival rides, and food vendors to choose from. Two stages kept fans entertained with music from bands such as The Blooze Brothers, Infinity, The Walk-ins and more.

Officials were relieved to see no disruptions to the event, after taking proactive steps to increase security following an incident at a carnival in May. The Village put in place tighter security protocol after hordes of teenagers disrupted a carnival in May. The mob of 400 teenagers descended on the Armed Forces Carnival, brawling with each other and creating a chaotic, fear-filled scene. The incident led to the cancelation of the event's second day, and set in motion Village planning for heavier security measures.

It was the second event for which the Village brought in outside, armed security guards from firm P4. The Village's debut RibFest drew an estimated 30,000-plus over its four days earlier this month, with no security incidents.

"We are extremely happy with another safe and successful block party in the books," Carr told Patch. "Our marketing and public safety team put together back to back events that entertained residents and visitors from across the south suburbs. This annual event, the RibFest and other events including concerts at the Credit Union 1 Amphitheatre brought in over 100, 000 visitors to experience life amplified in Tinley Park.
