TINLEY PARK, IL — After prolonged delays and public doubts that it would actually come to fruition, the Amazon Fresh store in Tinley Park is set to open.

The store will host a grand opening on Thursday, Aug. 22, Tinley Park officials said.

The 38,436-square-foot building at 16017 S. Harlem Ave. is Amazon’s 11th brick-and-mortar storefront in the Chicago area, along with another south suburban location in Oak Lawn. The store will sell groceries, made-to-order food, and beer and liquor.

The store was originally slated for a spring 2023 opening; delays along the way have been linked to staffing issues, equipment delays, and supply problems. The Tinley Park store will be the closest for many, with other locations currently open in Oak Lawn, Westmont and Naperville.

The store will be open from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. seven days a week. Customers will be able to scan a QR code to pay for their groceries via the Amazon app. They'll also scan the code or a card to leave the store.

"This is a big win for Tinley Park and the entire south suburbs," Mayor Michael Glotz said in a release. "Amazon Fresh is fast becoming a favorite for shoppers who value quality food and easy checkouts, and we’re excited to have one of their stores right here in our own back yard."

The store is a focal point of Tinley Park Plaza, a shopping center owned by Brixmor Property Group. Plans for the plaza also include a Ross Dress for Less, and a Five Below store.
