Tinley Park Library Board President Leads With 'A Servant's Heart'

TINLEY PARK, IL — Without community leaders, Tinley Park wouldn’t hum along nearly as smoothly as it does. We’d miss their contributions in big and small ways.

Patch has partnered with T-Mobile to recognize these often unsung community leaders and celebrate their contributions.

He is the President of the Tinley Park Library Board of Trustees.

Why do you believe the community leader should be recognized or honored?

I would like to nominate Darren Meyers, President of the Tinley Park Library Board of Trustees. As a Tinley Park resident for over 18 years, I have regularly used library services. I recently started attending Trustee meetings as a citizen to see the library’s inner workings. In attending these meeting, I have observed that Tinley Park Library Board of Trustees is ran by reliable, thoughtful, and diligent citizens. One of these citizens is Darren Meyers, President of the Tinley Park Library Board of Trustees.

As President of the Board of Trustees, Darren models exemplary Tinley Park citizenship.
Darren Meyers runs each meeting with intentionality, a listening ear, and in deference to his colleagues. His outstanding work ethic and genuine care for the library shows in his enthusiasm during meetings for each agenda item.

Additionally, he stewards his natural gifts and talents for the betterment of the library and its services. While planning for a renovation project, he has led the trustees through critical financial and strategic points of the plan with precision, not missing details. He and his colleagues strive to stretch every taxpayer dollar with servant hearts.

In addition to their strategizing, Darren, and colleagues gladly welcome members of the community. In addition to welcoming me and other citizens, they gladly invite members of the Youth Advisory Council to share minutes from their governance and attend Board meetings. The modeling the Board provides for young members of the community encourages me to believe that the Library Board will be in good hands for a long time to come. The Tinley Park Public Library is held accountable by people who believe in the library’s mission in this community.

While this nomination is directed towards Darren, the Board thrives on the strength of each member on it. It is this great company that Darren thrives. It is with great conviction that I nominate Darren as he personifies the spirit of Tinley Park and its library to the community.
