Tinley Park Lights Documentary: What Was That In The Sky?

TINLEY PARK, IL — It has been 17 years since the Tinley Park Lights phenomenon baffled residents across suburban Chicago. For years, one question has lingered in the minds of many in Tinley Park: "What was that in the sky?"

On Aug. 21, 2004, people in Tinley Park, Orland Park, Frankfort, Oak Forest, Mokena and Evergreen Park reported sightings of three lights in the sky in a triangular pattern. Some who saw the lights watched in awe, while others called police — but to this day, no one who saw the triangle formation in the sky knows what it was.

The lights have been seen multiple times over the years. These sightings became so well known they were dubbed the "Tinley Park Lights." The History Channel even featured Tinley's lights on an episode of "UFO Hunters" in 2008. A 2015 map purported to show that the south suburbs was a hotbed for sightings.

Tinley Park alone has been home to at least 168 sightings of unknown lights in the sky between 2001 and 2015. There have been so many that Tinley Park has become famous for its sightings.

In this documentary, we talked with witnesses who shared their experiences, including Tinley Park police Officer Greg King, who was on duty the night he saw the lights. We also spoke with Sam Maranto, director of the Illinois Mutual UFO Network; and Christopher Impey, an astronomy professor at the University of Arizona, Tucson, who explained the UAP report.
