Tinley Park's First And Only Cannabis Dispensary Approved By Board

Officials previously decided only to allow one dispensary within the village and chose Ascend, a New York-based company, to set up a space.

TINLEY PARK, IL — Tinley Park village officials approved a plan to allow a cannabis dispensary at the former Bandana's Bar-B-Q restaurant during a Tuesday board meeting.

The plan to allow Ascend Wellness Holdings, a recreational dispensary, had been in the works for almost a year after officials interviewed multiple businesses vying to become the first dispensary within the village.

According to state law, Tinley Park can tax 3 percent on products sold at the dispensary. In order to allow Ascend to set up shop in the former restaurant, planning officials suggested a special use permit for the building which was approved Tuesday.

Police and company officials told Patch the 6200 South Harlem Avenue was perfect for the dispensary due to its lack of neighbors who might be bothered by the smell of cannabis.

While no on-site smoking or consumption of marijuana products will be allowed at the dispensary, a company spokeswoman said Ascend will employ armed guards and multiple cameras to ensure the safety of customers and the surrounding residents.
