Salary: $19.00- $23.00/hour DOE

The Landscape Specialist works under the supervision of the Park Foreman and is responsible for skilled work involving the construction, repair, and upkeep of all aspects of landscape as they pertain to Park District grounds and facilities. This position is full time, 40 hours per week plus benefits, and requires flexibility to work some weekends/evenings and overtime as needed. Normal work schedule is Monday through Friday, 6:30am-3:30pm.
The desired candidate must possess:
- Three years of specialized training or experience in landscape construction, turf management, arboricultural, and/or horticultural practices
- Ability to operate a variety of specialized equipment in connection with the District’s turf program
- Practical knowledge of equipment and tools used in park maintenance activities
- Ability to service equipment used and detect operating defects
- Ability to obtain certification in CPR, First Aid, and AED within six months of employment
- Ability to organize, supervise, and carry out the District’s snow removal operation
- Ability to work outdoors in all types of weather conditions (extreme heat, cold, rain, or snow)
- Ability to perform manual labor tasks that require walking, bending, stooping, standing, sitting, kneeling, climbing, reaching, lifting, pulling and/or pushing, grasping, and carrying
- Physical ability to operate motorized equipment and machinery in a safe and proper manner
- Ability to continuously and alertly operate mowers and tractors in an 8-hour workday with a 1-hour lunch
- High school diploma or equivalent, and valid Illinois Driver’s License
- Ability to obtain and maintain an Illinois Pesticide Applicator’s License in Right of Way, Turf, Pest, and Ornament control
