TINLEY PARK, IL — St. Boniface Park in Tinley Park is finally complete. The Tinley Park Park District held its grand reopening of the site, located at 16301 Oak Park Ave. Wednesday evening.
The park has been completely remodeled. The old swing set was removed in July 2020, and in August 2020, the entire playground, baseball field, parking lot and some trees were removed from around the property, while construction took off. The site was initially expected to open in June, but rainy weather pushed the grand opening back, according to Shawn Roby, Executive Director of the Tinley Park Park District.
Roby told Patch the park district decided to revamp this specific park because it had the oldest playground in town.

"There were some serious issues with it, and we wanted to clean it up residents could use it more often," Roby said. "The neighborhood needed a new playground. It was one of the oldest playgrounds we had."
The executive director went on to say that many public meetings were held prior to the start of construction on site, and that many residents were involved in the planning.

"Parking was always a problem, there was very little ADA access to the park — we knew we had to improve it, so we set out to meet with the public multiple times to discuss what the park was going to look like, its amenities within the playground, the colors and more," Roby said. "Just a multitude of things, and we had great public turnout doing it."
The park was acquired by the park district in 1974 and encompasses six acres of land, according to the park district.
"I cannot thank the public enough for getting involved because that is what makes this a park," Roby said.
