TINLEY PARK, IL — Tinley Park Police are asking for the public's help.

Not to catch a criminal.

But to help a fellow officer and Tinley Park High School graduate.

Chief Matthew Walsh made a public appeal asking residents to send cards to Officer Tim Jones of the Park Forest Police Department.

Three years ago, Jones, who was 24, was shot in the head and jaw during a burglary call. He is now paralyzed.

Park Forest's police has held a campaign to collect well-wishes and cards for Jones. Three years later, they still want him to know his "still loved and appreciated," Walsh wrote in a Facebook post.

Jones, Walsh wrote, is a 2009 graduate of Tinley Park High School. He was a two-sport athlete and played football as a Titan.

Jones has a long journey toward recovery, but his colleagues with Park Forest police said they forward to seeing Officer Jones' face light up as he reads the letters.
