American Airlines Jet Keeps Passengers on O'Hare Tarmac for 2 Hours After Landing

The plane sat and circled and waited for a gate to open, passenger tells NBC.

An American Airlines plane kept passengers in their seats for more than two hours after landing at O’Hare International Airport Monday night, alternately driving around the airport and sitting on the tarmac as the pilots waited for a gate to open.

“I don’t know why they couldn’t leave the gates but they would de-ice the (planes at the gate) and then the plane would sit and then they’d have to do it again, so they couldn’t move the planes out,” passenger Patti Shapiro told NBC Chicago early Tuesday.

Flight 2267 from Los Angeles landed on time at around 10:30 p.m. An American Airlines spokeswoman told NBC Chicago the plane pulled into a gate at 12:36 a.m.
