Media outlets are reporting the latest news from the investigation into Monday's Boston Marathon bombings, which killed three people and injured nearly 200, as being an image of a possible suspect.

Authorities are looking to question a man seen on video surveillance wearing a white baseball cap, a light-colored hooded sweatshirt and a black jacket, reported CNN.

There reportedly is an image of a suspect "carrying, and perhaps dropping, a black bag at the second bombing scene," according to The Boston Globe, and authorities are also reviewing surveillance footage from a camera at a Lord & Taylor store.

False news of an arrest in the attacks spread throughout the media Wednesday afternoon until the FBI effectively squashed it.

"Contrary to widespread reporting, no arrest has been made in connection with the Boston Marathon attack. Over the past day and a half, there have been a number of press reports based on information from unofficial sources that has been inaccurate. Since these stories often have unintended consequences, we ask the media, particularly at this early stage of the investigation, to exercise caution and attempt to verify information through appropriate official channels before reporting," stated an FBI press release.
