Dispose of Unwanted Medications in Vernon Hills
The Save A Star Drug Awareness Foundation offers the program to help keep unwanted medications out of the hands of potential abusers.

Do you have unneeded prescription or over-the-counter drugs in your home?
The Save A Star Drug Awareness Foundation wants to remind you that medications can be disposed of in its collection box at the Vernon Hills Police Department.
βThe purpose of this program is to collect and safely dispose of unwanted and unused medications, thus keeping them out of the hands of individuals who might otherwise become victims of prescription drug abuse,β the organization wrote in a statement.

The Save A Star Drug Awareness Foundation was founded in Highland Park by David and Gail Katz and their daughter, Melissa Katz Gold, following the death of David and Gailβs 25 year-old son and Melissaβs brother, Daniel, from an overdose of prescription drug medication in June 2007. The Save A Star Drug Awareness Foundation was created to educate the public about the dangers and consequences of prescription drug abuse and addiction; and to provide tangible methods to remove unwanted and unused medications from Americaβs homes.
Residents with unwanted drugs can drop them off in the collection box in the Vernon Hills Police Departmentβs lobby. Accepted items include prescription medications (including controlled substances), all over-the-counter and pet medications,samples, vitamins, liquids and creams.Β Items not accepted for depositΒ include needles/sharps, thermometers, IV bags, bloody waste and hydrogen peroxide.
