Enrollment Open at Vernon Hills Montessori Academy
Openings are still available for the 2013-14 school year. A public open house is scheduled for Aug. 19.
The Vernon Hills Montessori Academy is still accepting applications for its 2013-14 academic school year, which starts Aug. 21 and runs through June 3, 2014.Β
Located at 21 Hawthorn Parkway, the academy is Vernon Hillsβ only Montessori school, serving children from toddlers through kindergarten. The school has capacity for about 35 children and a limited number of openings are still available for the fall semester.
The Montessori school is celebrating its second anniversary at its current location in Vernon Hills in August. In addition to providing children with the fundamentals of reading, writing and math, the academy incorporates music, arts, sports and other activities to create a fun and enriching learning environment.

βWhat makes this different from other schools is it is small, cozy environment that allows us to spend more time with each individual child,β said Margarita Shvets, owner and director of the Vernon Hills Montessori Academy. βThe music, sports and daily activities also makes us unique.β
βWhat parents like is that there are a lot of extracurricular activities that these children are exposed to that make these programs unique,β she said. βChildren can have private vocal, piano and guitar lessons. They can have semi-private lessons in Chinese martial arts and Vietnamese martial arts. There are also rhythmic gymnastics and music daily.βΒ

Teachers at the school are trained in the Montessori method of teaching, using a hands-on approach to teach children academic subjects such as reading, writing and math.
Throughout the year, children at the Montessori school also perform special events such as concerts and plays, including a summer concert at the academy.
The academy has a toddler classroom for children ages 15 to 35 months and a pre-school/kindergarten classroom for children ages 3 to 6 years old. There is also a large indoor play room for gymnastics and other sports as well as an outdoor playground area.
An open house for parents and the public will be held on Aug. 19, from 3 to 6 p.m. at the academy. Space is limited for the 2013-14 school year, but a small number of openings are still available.Β
