Long-Haired Police Officer, Family Shave Heads for Charity

Vernon Hills Police Officer Sharon Joseph, along with her husband and young children, were among the volunteers who had their heads shaved Saturday afternoon at Hawthorn Mall.

Vernon Hills Police Officer Sharon Joseph was among Saturday's St. Baldrick's Day volunteers. Joseph, a crime prevention officer, said she was inspired to shave her head for charity after a female colleague participated in the fundraiser last year.

Joseph, whose long, curly blonde hair reached halfway down her back, said she'd been gearing up since last year's event to have her head shaved. She was joined by her husband, Anthony, and their children, 9-year-old Kaitlyn and 5-year-old Ryan.

The event, which took place at Hawthorn Mall, attracted crowds of onlookers. St. Baldrick's Day raises money for the St. Baldrick's Foundation, which funds childhood cancer research.
