October is National Disability Employment Awareness Month

During October, the Job Center of Lake County will host workshops featuring guest speakers who will discuss job accommodations, finances and fair housing. All workshops will be held at the Job Center of Lake County, 1 N. Genesee St., in Waukegan.

On Tuesday, Oct. 18, the Job Center will host a workshop "Succeeding with Accommodations," exploring the services of UMMA center, NorthPointe and the Independence Center. Hear how individuals successfully use accommodations for work and daily life. Special Guest James Davis, who lost his vision in childhood, will share his success story. The workshop will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m.

"Fix Your Finances" will feature guest speaker Gregorio Resendiz, a bilingual financial certified counselor with the Community Action Partnership of Lake County. He will share tips to evaluate your income and expenses. Learn how to create a budget and repair your credit at the workshop held on Thursday, Oct. 20 from 1:00 to 2:30 p.m.

"Fair Housing – What you need to know about housing discrimination" will be held on Thursday, Oct. 27 from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. Identify discrimination and learn legal rights, reasonable accommodations and modifications, individuals with disabilities when making request from landlords and the laws that protect you.
