The Performers School Presents: Filmmaking for Social Change
Calling all actors! Theater courses on topics facing youth today
At a critical time when children are faced with major social issues at school, home, extracurricular activities and in their social lives, The Performerβs School (TPS) is introducing 6th to 12th graders to Filmmaking for Social Change. Taught by accomplished acting coach and actor, Adria Dawn, whoβs films (in collaboration with TPS to create Revealing Media Group) have been used in classrooms across the country to spark needed conversations with kids today, the course will begin April 20th at Lake Forest Country Day School.
βWe look at theater as a type of therapy, offering kids the opportunity to feel what it may be like to live in other peopleβs shoes,β says The Performerβs School co-owners, Liz Fauntleroy and Stacey Flaster. βFilmmaking for Social change will offer eye-opening experiences into the world of the everyday pressures our children are facing.β
Adria Dawnβs previous class films have included topics on anti-bullying, social exclusion, peer pressure and social media, overscheduling and pressure and depression, to name a few. βThese are all key topics that play a major role in the upbringing of todayβs youth,β says Fauntleroy. βWe are honored to bring someone as recognized as Adria to work with our students at The Performerβs School.β
The Performerβs Schoolβs Filmmaking for Social Change will create a film that explores the topic of gun violence in a safe and thought-provoking way, including all steps associated with filmmaking, including writing, pre-production, casting, shooting, and screening of the short film. The films made during this course will be educationally distributed and screened at film festivals.
Kicking off on Saturday, April 20, the course will be held on several Saturdays throughout April and May from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Lake Forest Country Day School, with shoot dates happening on May 18 and 19. Aspiring performers, actors, and filmmakers can enroll to attend this exciting learning experience by clicking HERE. For additional information contact Carly at info@theperformersschool.com.
βFilmmaking for social change will encourage our students to be a part of something important where they can make a difference when learning the art of film making and acting for the camera,β says Flaster.
