Trader Joe's to Open Across from Mariano's

Where will you shop?

Vernon Hills residents who have been clamoring for a Trader Joe's in their village will come within just feet of having their wish come true.

Construction is scheduled to begin next month on a Trader Joe's on Milwaukee Avenue, across the street from Mariano's. The new store will be in Libertyville, just outside of Vernon Hills' city limit.

Patch readers responded to the news with mixed reactions last week, with some celebrating ("Score for Libertyville!" posted reader QT Pie) and others wondering if the competition will hurt other nearby stores.

"Jewel, Mariano's & now Trader Joe's will all be within a couple blocks of each other. I think that's a little much. How many grocery stores does one city need?" reader Miranda posted.

So, we're wondering:

When Trader Joe's opens, will you still shop at Mariano's? Will the two stores be competitors, or will they complement each other?

How important is it for you to keep your grocery tax dollars in Vernon Hills? Will that play a role in where you decide to shop?
