SKOKIE, IL — Star Students are found in classrooms, on concert and theater stages and at debate lecterns, and out in the community doing good things to make life better for all of us.

Here at Patch, we've launched an initiative to help recognize Star Students, and we’re working to tell the stories of these outstanding kids to their neighbors.

This submission comes from Michele Gaus Ehning, of Vernon Hills, who nominated her son, a senior at Vernon Hills High School.

Star local student’s name
Marcello

Why do you believe the star local student should be recognized?
Marcello is an amazing young man. Not only has he maintained straight A’s throughout his 4 years in high school, he has been a soccer player on an elite club team, has played the cello in the highest orchestra at Vernon Hills High School and at Midwest Young Artists Conservatory all four years, has acted in many school plays, including starring as Prince Charming in the school musical, Cinderella this past fall, and Monsieur Bouc in Murder On the Orient Express last month.

Marcello is also a speed skater, and he competed at U.S Speed Skating World Cup Qualifiers in Salt Lake City this past fall.

In addition, Marcello has been a peer tutor at Vernon Hills High School for the last 3 years.

What's one thing you want everyone to know about the star local student?
Not only is he an amazing athlete, musician, actor and student, he has a great sense of humor and is also a very nice person.

Congratulations on your achievements, and all of our best wishes to you in the future, Marcello!
