Vernon Township is offering a free paper shredding event on Monday, September 23, from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the Vernon Township Administration Building, 3050 N. Main Street in Buffalo Grove. This event is sponsored by the Township’s Highway Department, in partnership with Opportunity Secure Data Destruction, and is open to all Vernon Township residents.

Those who participate can safely and securely dispose of unwanted documents, including checks, insurance policies, bills, medical records, and invoices with a limit of three medium-sized boxes or bags. Please ensure all paper is dry and free of plastic spines, covers, metal clips, and binders. Items such as photos and magazines, newspapers, X-rays, manilla folders and hanging file folders will not be accepted.

Due to high demand for this event, participants will have to show proof that they are a Vernon Township resident by presenting identification, such as a driver’s license or State ID.

This is an on-site shredding event, however, if the truck where documents are deposited fills up, there will be locked containers available where residents can safely dispose of documents. This free shredding event is offered seasonally by the Township in the fall, spring and summer.
