VHHS Girls Advance to State Track and Field Meet

The sectional girls track and field meet was held at Grayslake Central on Friday. Vernon Hills High School finished third overall, with five athletes qualifying for next weekend's state competition.

Five Vernon Hills High School girls track and field athletes have qualified to compete in the state meet this Thursday through Saturday at Eastern Illinois University in Charleston, according to sectional results posted on the IHSA website.

Sectionals were held Friday at Grayslake Central High School.

Under the direction of head coach Jason Rush, Vernon Hills High School placed third in the overall team scores.

VHHS placed second overall in the 4x400-meter relay and fourth in the 4x800-meter relay.

Senior Alli Tran placed first in the 300-meter low hurdles and second in the long jump.

Sophomore Kasey Firnbach placed first in the discuss throw.

Senior Taryn Rawles placed second in the pole vault.

Senior Kristen Whitney placed fourth in the 3200-meter run.

Junior Cassie Lira placed eighth in the 1600-meter run.
