Artwork by hundreds of students will be on public display this month at the Aspen Drive Library.

The work of Vernon Hills-area students will be featured this month in the third annual Youth Art Show.
Artwork by hundreds of students at Hawthorn Elementary North and South, Townline Elementary, Aspen Elementary, Hawthorn School Dual Language, and Hawthorn Middle North and South Schools will be showcased.
The show, which is sponsored by the Cook Memorial Public Library District in partnership with Hawthorn District 73, will run from March 7 to April 1 at the Aspen Drive library. An opening reception will be held from 6-8 p.m. March 7 at the library. The event is free and open to the public.

The Youth Art Show is part of the library’s celebration of Youth Art Month, an annual observance in March to emphasize the value of art education for all youth and to encourage support for quality school art programs. According to the National Art Education Association, Youth Art Month “provides a valuable forum for acknowledging skills that are fostered through experience in the visual arts, skills that are not possible in other subjects offered in school curricula.”
Refreshments for the opening reception will be provided by Hawthorn District 73. Additional parking will be available at Hawthorn Middle School South; a police officer will guide pedestrian traffic across Aspen Drive. Neighboring businesses, including Walgreens, ask that attendees not use their lots for parking. For more information, visit www.cooklib.org or call (847) 362-2330.
