$22K Per Western Springs House For This Project
The village aims to get all the work done over the next dozen years.

WESTERN SPRINGS, IL β Western Springs is continuing its program to replace lead service lines to homes.
The village is addressing 42 such lines this year. That costs $932,000, which works out to about $22,000 per home.
Over the next dozen years, the village plans to replace 516 lines. At the current rate, that would cost the village $11.5 million. That is equivalent to nearly two years of spending for the police department.

The village is undertaking the work in response to a federal mandate.
The issue came up at Monday's Village Board meeting. Originally, the house at 4215 Lawn Ave. was on this year's list. But the home was sold and the new owner plans to demolish and replace it, according to the village.

In place of that house, the village now says it will replace the line at 4322 Western Ave.
The village has about 4,500 connections to its water system.
