LA GRANGE, IL – The Lyons Township High School board this week approved projects over the next three summers, including a major one at South Campus.

The projects will be paid for through $25 million in bonds that the board plans to sell late this year or early next.

The school has received much feedback from the community about the need for a renovated cafeteria at South Campus in Western Springs.

Under its plan, the school would move the music area to the old cafeteria. Then the school would build a cafeteria and commons addition, with the old music area used for the kitchen and serving area. The work is estimated to cost about $15 million.

The school expects the project to last a year.

Another big project is a new turf field at North Campus. It would include a storm sewer and underground water detention, as required by the village of La Grange and the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District.

The project also would include minor updates to the west field. All the work is estimated to cost up to $3.5 million.

At this week's school board meeting, Brian Stachacz, the school's director of business services, called the estimates "reasonably conservative."
