Cavanagh Law Group: Michael J. Sorich Promoted to Named Partner
Now called Cavanagh Sorich Law Group 27 years after founding partner Timothy J. Cavanagh launched the law firm on St. Patrick's Day in 1997
April 15, 2024 Chicago Cavanagh Law Group, (cavanaghlawgroup.com ) a Chicago based, nationally renowned, personal injury and medical malpractice law firm announced that Michael J. Sorich was promoted to a named partner at the firm. The law firm will now be known as Cavanagh Sorich Law Group. Sorich, age 45, joined the firm eight years ago as a partner after working 13 years at the Cook County State’s Attorney’s office. While there, Sorich tried more than 50 cases and served as the youngest supervisor ever in the Civil Division. Since joining Cavanagh Law Group in 2016, Sorich has obtained more than $100 million in verdicts and settlements for clients.
Sorich was part of the firm’s trial team in 2018 that obtained a landmark $20 million “Code of Silence” victory against the City of Chicago after an off-duty Chicago police detective drove drunk and killed two men in a fiery crash in 2009. Sorich helped uncover dramatic evidence the City of Chicago failed to disclose during discovery and compelled the Chicago Police Department to acknowledge its long-entrenched “Code of Silence.”
Sorich’s elevation to named partner comes 27 years after founding partner Timothy J. Cavanagh launched the firm on St. Patrick’s Day in 1997. Since then, the firm has recovered more than $750 million in verdicts and settlements across the country including record-breaking triumphs in Illinois in a number of areas.

“I knew when we successfully tried the Code of Silence case in federal court together that Mike was a lawyer I wanted to be in the trenches with. He is good with people, exceptional at investigating cases, taking depositions and trial strategy. Mike has great integrity and juries see that and trust him. If he says something is true, they believe him,” said Timothy J. Cavanagh, founding partner at Cavanagh Sorich Law Group. “Mike has earned this and I am very proud to have his name on the door alongside mine.”
“Becoming a named partner is a tremendous opportunity for me. I am very grateful to Tim because from the beginning, he gave me the chance to work alongside him on very significant and high-profile cases. I have learned so much from him,” said Michael J. Sorich, Cavanagh Sorich Law Group. “Tim has been a tremendous mentor and friend. I look forward to helping carry on the great legacy of success he has established obtaining justice for the firm’s clients.”
