Western Springs, IL - Darryl M. Jefferson, 30 of the 200 block of S. 19th Avenue in Maywood, was stopped at 1:51 a.m. Jan. 9 for speeding over the posted limit at Ogden Avenue and Interstate 294.While speaking with Jefferson, the arresting officer smelled alcohol on his breath and in the car, according to Western Springs police. The officer also noticed Jefferson had glassy and bloodshot eyes.Jefferson attempted a series of field sobriety tests and was arrested for a drunken driving. A search of his car uncovered a loaded semi-automatic 9mm firearm and an open container of brandy, police reported.Jefferson was charged with unlawful use of a weapon- misdemeanor offense, DUI, DUI of 0.08 or more, illegal transportation of alcohol, no insurance and speeding, police reported.
