Know Your Cops: La Grange Panel Will Discuss New Policing Legislation, Gun Reform Next Week
The panel will take place at the La Grange Public Library Jan. 26.
It can be hard to keep track of new legislation, especially if youβre not a political junkie. For a lot of people, new laws, their meanings and their impact can go overlooked due to a lack of community discussion.
The League of Women Voters of the La Grange Area is working to change that with a public program that will feature panel speakers for an open discussion about recent policing laws and how theyβre affecting communities at a local level.
Local police chiefs, including Riverside Chief Thomas Weitzel, La Grange Park Chief Ed Rompa, Countryside Chief Joe Ford and Hodgkins Chief Ernie Millsap, will appear at the symposium in the La Grange Public Library Community Room from 7-8:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 26.

The evening is expected to be βinteresting and informative as we have a solid panel willing to share their opinions, however uniform or diverse they may be,β according to Ford, who commented in a League of Women Voters release.
Topics of discussion will include the chiefsβ personal opinions on new legislation, improving community relations, police training, body cameras, uniform crime reporting and gun reform.
