Leaf Piles In Western Springs Buried In Snow
The village speaks about the piles that were caught up in snow removal.

WESTERN SPRINGS, IL β Curbside leaf piles are buried in the snow. It's one of the consequences of early snowfall that sticks around for a while.
Many Western Springs residents had raked their leaves to the curb for pickup in the days before the Thanksgiving weekend snowstorm. The village collected some of the piles, but not all of them.
Then another snowstorm occurred last weekend.

On Monday, Western Springs announced it would not resume leaf collection for the season. It said it had dedicated its equipment to snow removal.
"The Village regrets that leaf piles mixed into the snow were plowed along driveways and onto parkways, but it was imperative to clear the streets before temperatures dropped, and the snow and leaf piles became immovable," the village said in its statement.

If temperatures drop and weather conditions cooperate, the village will move leaves in the street and driveway aprons to the parkway, according to the statement.
The village said it would look into the possibility of street sweeping.
"Once the winter has passed, the situation will be assessed to determine if additional leaf removal is required or feasible," the village said.
