Lombard Race for the Cure Support Gathering Now
Annual race will raise money for breast health, care, treatment and support locally.

Registration for the Susan G. Komen-Chicagoland Area (Komen Chicago) Lombard Race for the Cure is now open. The event will take place on Sunday, Sept. 20, 2015, at Yorktown Center in Lombard. To register or volunteer for Lombard Race for the Cure, visit www.komenchicago.org.
“We are so grateful to have the opportunity to bring the Race for the Cure to Lombard and its surrounding suburbs. Komen Chicago provides grants for many breast health and breast cancer services in DuPage County, so raising awareness and funds within the communities we serve is extremely impactful,” Susan Tybon, Komen Chicago’s CEO, said.
Participants can enjoy a 5K timed run, 5K untimed walk or 1 Mile Fun Walk, in addition to a variety of entertainment and activities. The event site will open at 6:30 am, and the 5K Run will begin at 8:30 am, following the Survivor Parade.

Lombard race chairperson Joan Knippen added,“I am lucky to have the opportunity to be the Lombard Race Chair for the third year. Being able to promote breast cancer awareness, and the Race, which directly helps fund breast health care locally is something I am truly passionate about. I love the hometown feel of the Lombard Race — it’s a great way for everyone, especially families, to spend an amazing morning!”
Last year, about 3,500 participants attended the Lombard Race. The goal for the 2015 is to raise over $300,000 on behalf of breast cancer.
