Man Who Died In Western Springs Crash Identified
The resident had a long career in the media, credited with helping develop a newswire service.

WESTERN SPRINGS, IL β A Western Springs man was identified as the pedestrian who died after a crash last week.
Walter Mahoney, 74, was hit by a car on Ogden Avenue near Woodland Avenue about 5:15 p.m. Wednesday, local police said. He was taken to an area hospital, where he died the next day.
The crash is still under investigation, police said. It occurred a few blocks from his home; his obituary said he took daily walks.

Mahoney was the senior vice president of Tribune Media Services, where he worked for 38 years, according to his obituary. He was credited with helping develop a newswire service connecting newspapers around the world.
In retirement, he became a docent at the Illinois Holocaust Museum and tutored high school students in a GED program.

He grew up in Richmond, Virginia, and graduated from the University of Georgia with a journalism degree.
